C.Beck

... So inspirational! It sent goose bumps up my spine."
-Ann Kurtz, educator

C. Beck is a portrait of a woodcut artist in northern Minnesota. We learn how he looks at the world and turns that vision into color, shape and line. We travel with him as he seeks out the places that most inspire him, and watch him paint preliminary sketches by the side of the road, translating the landscape into his own terms.

With warmth and candour, Charlie Beck allows us an intimate view of the creative process, and brings us with him on a journey of discovery, as he shares the emerging drawings and prints. "I never end up with exactly what I started out with", he explains, and shows how he continues to adapt his ideas as he cuts the plates and rolls each further stage of ink onto the paper. A bird's eye view of the artist's imagination at work, this film leads us to the wonder and ultimate mystery of art.
